Pulp Sheet Machines: Converting Wet Pulp into Marketable Sheets for Global Trade

Market pulp mills — those that produce and sell pulp rather than consuming it directly in a paper machine — require a pulp sheet machine to dewater, dry, and cut pulp into standard-sized sheets suitable for baling, storage, and shipment to paper manufacturers worldwide. Rajshree Group's pulp sheet machines are designed as the final converting step in a market pulp operation, producing high-quality pulp sheets at 90–92% dryness that meet international market pulp shipping standards.

The pulp sheet machine operates on the same fundamental wet-press-dryer principle as a paper machine, but at lower basis weight (750–850 GSM) and with specific requirements for sheet formation uniformity — since any basis weight variation in the sheet becomes a mixing inconsistency when the sheet is re-pulped by the customer. Rajshree's headbox and forming section designs for pulp sheet machines achieve formation CV (coefficient of variation) below 2.5% — meeting the most demanding market pulp customer specifications.

After drying, the pulp web passes through a precision cross-cutter that cuts sheets to the internationally standard 600×800 mm format (or customer-specific dimensions), counts and stacks the sheets into bales, and feeds the baling and wrapping system. Rajshree designs the pulp sheet machine and downstream baling system as a fully integrated line with single-point responsibility for performance.

📋 Market Pulp Sheet Standards

Rajshree's pulp sheet machines produce sheets meeting TAPPI T218 (formation), T220 (physical properties) and ISO 5269 (sheet making) standards — the reference standards used by international market pulp buyers for incoming quality acceptance. Meeting these standards opens access to export markets in Asia, Europe, and the Americas.

Frequently Asked Questions

Rajshree's pulp sheet machines produce air-dried pulp sheets in basis weights from 600 GSM to 1,200 GSM (grams per square metre), typically in sheets of 600 mm × 800 mm to 750 mm × 1,000 mm. The sheet caliper and basis weight are set by the headbox consistency and machine speed, which are adjustable for different pulp grades.
Rajshree's pulp sheet machines operate at 20–60 m/min, depending on machine width and production capacity. A typical 1.5 m wide pulp sheet machine at 30 m/min produces approximately 15–25 ADT/day (air-dried tonnes per day) of pulp sheets. Speed and production rate are confirmed in the project proposal based on the client's capacity requirement.
After the press section, pulp sheets typically achieve a dryness of 38–45% (moisture content 55–62%). After the steam-heated dryer section, air-dried pulp sheets reach 90–92% dryness (8–10% moisture content), which is the standard for pulp marketed as Air Dried (AD) pulp. The dryer section length is designed to achieve the target dryness at the rated machine speed.
Yes. Rajshree designs pulp sheet machines as an integrated system with an automatic cutter-layboy (for sheet cutting to size) and a downstream baling press, wire tier, and stacker. The complete system from the headbox to the stacked, tied bale is controlled from a single PLC panel, allowing efficient single-operator management of the line.
Rajshree's pulp sheet machines process bleached and unbleached chemical pulp (kraft, soda, sulphite), bagasse pulp, kenaf pulp, straw pulp, and mechanical pulp. The headbox and wet-end system are configured for the drainage characteristics and fibre length of the specific pulp grade. Different grades can be produced on the same machine by adjusting operating parameters.
