QUICK ANSWER

Rajshree Group is one of India's foremost turnkey suppliers of Effluent Treatment Plants (ETP) for the pulp and paper industry. Our ETPs treat mill effluent through primary, secondary, and tertiary stages to meet CPCB/SPCB discharge norms.

PROVEN TRACK RECORD

In 2015 we installed a complete three-stage effluent treatment plant for a paper mill in Tanzania that met strict discharge norms. Since 2003, Rajshree Group has delivered 22+ pulp and paper projects across three continents — India, Africa and the Middle East — totalling over 2,000 TPD of installed capacity.

Product Overview

We design systems for ZLD (Zero Liquid Discharge) and conventional discharge, customised to each mill's effluent characteristics and capacity.

Paper Mill Effluent Treatment: Meeting Compliance While Recovering Value

Pulp and paper mill effluent is characterised by high BOD (Biological Oxygen Demand), suspended solids, colour from lignin degradation products, and varying pH from process chemicals. Untreated, this effluent is among the most environmentally impactful in Indian industry — which is why CPCB and state pollution control boards apply strict discharge norms, with increasing enforcement actions against non-compliant mills.

Rajshree Group's three-stage effluent treatment plants are designed not merely to meet compliance thresholds but to treat to reuse quality wherever possible. Our primary stage removes 60–70% of suspended solids through bar screening, equalization, and primary clarification. Secondary biological treatment removes dissolved BOD/COD through activated sludge, MBBR (Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor), or UASB processes — selected based on effluent load and land area available.

Mills facing regulatory pressure toward Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) benefit from Rajshree's tertiary treatment add-ons — including multi-media filtration, activated carbon adsorption, and membrane systems — that produce treated water suitable for reuse in the wood yard, ETP recirculation, or non-contact cooling systems, dramatically reducing freshwater intake from rivers or groundwater.

🌊 Compliance-First Design

All Rajshree ETP designs are verified against current CPCB General Standards for discharge to inland surface water (BOD ≤30 mg/L, SS ≤100 mg/L) and SPCB-specific norms for paper mills. We also design for anticipated tightening of colour and AOX norms in emerging-market regulatory frameworks across Africa and the Middle East.

Frequently Asked Questions

Primary treatment removes suspended solids (fibres, fillers, fines) and a portion of BOD from paper mill effluent through physical-mechanical processes: screening (coarse and fine), dissolved air flotation (DAF), or clarification. Primary treatment typically achieves 60–80% suspended solids removal and 30–40% BOD reduction before secondary biological treatment.
Rajshree's primary ETP systems (DAF or clarifier-based) achieve suspended solids removal of 70–85% and BOD reduction of 30–45%. The recovered fibre and filler sludge is returned to the paper machine (for process reasons) or dewatered and disposed of, recovering valuable filler material that would otherwise be wasted.
A typical Rajshree primary ETP includes: coarse screening (bar screen or rotary drum screen), fine screening (curved screen or micro-strainer), primary DAF (dissolved air flotation) unit with polymer dosing, sludge thickener, and sludge dewatering (belt press or centrifuge). Chemical dosing systems for coagulant and flocculant are included with automatic dosing control.
Yes. For mills targeting ZLD, Rajshree designs the primary ETP as the first stage of a multi-stage treatment train: primary → secondary biological → tertiary (colour removal and polishing) → membrane treatment (RO or MBR) → multiple-effect evaporator for brine concentration. The primary stage quality targets are specified to meet the inlet requirements of downstream treatment stages.
Rajshree provides all technical documentation required for Consent to Establish (CTE) and Consent to Operate (CTO) applications to State Pollution Control Boards (SPCB) including ETP design drawings, process flow diagrams, effluent quality projections, and hydraulic retention time calculations. We can attend SPCB hearings with clients on request.
