Tissue Paper Manufacturing: From Jumbo Roll to Finished Product
The tissue paper industry is one of the fastest-growing segments of global paper manufacturing, driven by rising personal hygiene standards, urbanisation, and the expansion of modern retail trade. In India and Africa, per capita tissue consumption remains far below global averages — creating a runway of demand growth that makes tissue manufacturing one of the most attractive paper investment opportunities of the next decade. Rajshree Group's tissue paper jumbo roll machines are designed to capture this opportunity efficiently at scales accessible to Indian and African investors.
Tissue paper requires fundamentally different manufacturing principles from kraft or writing paper. Where other paper grades aim for high strength and stiffness, tissue must be soft, absorbent, and compressible. This requires a creping process — where the paper web is adhered to a large-diameter steam-heated Yankee cylinder, dried to near-final moisture content, then creped off the cylinder surface by a doctor blade. The creping creates the characteristic softness and stretch properties of quality tissue paper.
Rajshree's Yankee cylinder designs — available in 2.7 m, 3.2 m, and 3.66 m diameter configurations — are manufactured from close-grained cast iron with precision-ground surface finish, steam-heated internally at pressures of 3–6 bar. The Yankee surface temperature (150–175°C) and creping blade angle and pressure are the primary variables controlling tissue softness and crepe ratio. Rajshree calibrates all Yankee parameters during commissioning to achieve the target tissue properties for the customer's specific market grade.
Rajshree's tissue machines produce jumbo rolls at 14–18 GSM basis weight (bathroom tissue), 16–22 GSM (facial tissue), and 22–28 GSM (kitchen towel) with moisture at reel of 5–7%, crepe ratio of 18–28%, and brightness above 78% ISO for bleached grades. These jumbo rolls are directly compatible with all standard tissue converting lines for rewinding, embossing, perforating, and packaging.
